In 2014, the world community was discouraged by the demonstration of a new Chinese premium crossover - Landwind X7, which debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The fact is that the car was like two peas in a pod similar to the Range Rover Evoque, which even caused litigation between the Chinese and British brands. But as practice shows, such proceedings rarely bear any fruit and this situation was no exception - the conflict was settled, and the car continued its march through the Celestial Empire.

It is worth noting that the Russian consumer liked the Chinese clone Evoque, as evidenced by the large number of requests “where can I buy the Landwind X7”, which were literally replete with domestic forums and car blogs, on the pages of which at least some information about the Landwind company appeared. And some time later it became known that the leadership of the Chinese brand is seriously thinking about the release of Landwind X7 in Russia, and until this happens, our compatriots have to be content with “gray” car supplies.

Exterior Landwind X7 2017

The exterior of the Landwind X7 was not a revelation - with the exception of individual elements, we have an almost exact copy of the original Range Rover Evoque. So, the front part of the crossover has undergone some changes, which has received a different false radiator grille, modified head optics and a front bumper, which, as it seems to us, even outperforms the original "Evoque" in some way.

Like the "Briton", the new product received a roof line slightly heaped towards the rear pillars, as well as a window line rising to the stern, thanks to which the crossover has a more sporty and assertive look. In addition, the X7 profile is distinguished by massive wheel arches, original embossings on the side doors and stylish alloy wheels.

But not without a fly in the ointment, represented by an awkward plastic overlay located at the base of the side doors. The stern of the "Chinese" has other side lights, as well as modified exhaust pipes; otherwise, the car is practically indistinguishable from the original, including the fonts with which all the inscriptions on the body are made.
Unlike the Range Rover, the "Chinese" cannot boast of a high quality fit of body parts, however, this is not surprising, given the several times lower cost.

The outer dimensions of the machine are:

  • Length - 4420 mm;
  • Width - 1910 mm;
  • Height - 1630 mm;
  • Wheelbase - 2760 mm.


For comparison, the dimensions of the Evoque are: 4365 x 1900 x 1635 mm, with a wheelbase of 2660 mm. Despite the larger dimensions, the hero of our review has a noticeably lower ground clearance - 168 mm versus 215 mm, which does not allow us to consider the car as a "off-road conqueror".

Interior Landwind X7 2017

When creating the interior design of Landwind X7, Chinese designers were also inspired by the interior of the "British aristocrat", while the quality of fit of parts and materials used are noticeably inferior to the original. Nevertheless, it is quite difficult to find fault with ergonomics, for which special thanks to the "Chinese".

In front of the driver is a fairly original four-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a well-readable, but modest by modern standards, dashboard. In the central part of the dashboard there is a huge 10.2-inch screen of a multimedia and information complex, the physical dimensions of which are noticeably larger than that of the British, however, such a solution looks somewhat "alien". Slightly below are the twists of the climate system, represented by a two-zone "climate", and a number of function keys.

Special attention should be paid to the front seats, covered with natural leather and having architecture similar to the original, which, together with a wide range of adjustments, allows people of any size to sit comfortably.


Despite the fact that the rear sofa is designed for three riders, only two passengers can comfortably accommodate here. The volume of the Chinese trunk is noticeably larger than its British counterpart, which is explained by the larger dimensions of the Landwind X7. As a result, the buyer can count on the presence of a full-fledged spare wheel, as well as a small repair kit located in the luggage compartment underground.

Ultimately, the Landwind X7 saloon captivates with good finishing materials for its price, close to ideal ergonomics and rich equipment, which has long become one of the main "calling cards" of any modern "Chinese".

Specifications Landwind X7 2017

The new Landwind X7 is built on the bogie of its older brother X8, which assumes independent suspension on each axle with classic MacPherson struts in the front and multi-link in the rear. Unfortunately, the official dealer of Landwind X7 in Russia offers only a front-wheel drive configuration, while the installation of an all-wheel drive transmission is not possible even as an option.

The line of engines was originally represented by the only 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine licensed by Mitsubishi, which generated an impressive 190 "horses" and 250 Nm of rotational thrust. Unfortunately, the company decided not to voice such engine characteristics as acceleration from 0 to 100, maximum speed and fuel consumption. Nevertheless, given the power and weight of the car, which is just over 1.7 tons, it can be assumed that the crossover is quite capable of developing a maximum 180 km / h, as well as changing the first "hundred" in approximately 10-11 seconds. A choice of buyers is offered a 6-band manual transmission or an 8-band automatic transmission.

At present, another engine is expected to appear, which will most likely be a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of developing about 165 hp. Its dynamic characteristics are also unknown, while it will definitely surpass the 2-liter "brother" in terms of economy.

The steering of the crossover is represented by an electric booster, and the braking system is represented by four disc brakes, with a ventilation system on the front axle, a pair of which is a wide range of electronic "assistants".

Note that despite its rather archaic design, Landwind X7 has a comfortable suspension and good handling by the standards of class and price. The off-road capabilities of the crossover are somewhat upsetting, which are enough only for driving on a country road.

Safety is the Achilles' heel of almost every Chinese automaker, and the new Landwind X7 is no exception. But it is worth noting that in comparison with the previous models Landwind X6 and Landwind CV9, the Chinese managed to achieve significant progress. Recall that the first in the Euro NCAP crash tests completely failed the test, having received zero stars, and the second performed only slightly better, being awarded only two stars.

Landwind X7 boasts the following active-passive passenger and driver safety systems:

  • Anti-lock braking system;
  • ESP system;
  • Safe steering wheel;
  • Three-point seat belts;
  • ISOFIX child seat mountings;
  • Front and side airbags;
  • Cruise control;
  • Central lock;
  • Rear parking sensors and camera;
  • Tracking system for "dead" zones and traffic lane;
  • EBD system, etc.


In addition, the manufacturer notes that more modern and high-quality grades of steel are used in the production of the car, and the body has been supplemented with special deformation zones designed to "absorb" the force of impact in side and frontal collisions.

But even taking into account the innovations received, the Landwind X7 whose price is almost identical to the Koreans, does not reach their level of safety, although it offers a wider list of standard and optional equipment.

At home, the crossover is offered at a price of $ 21.7 thousand (about 1.3 million rubles), while the price of Landwind X7 in Russia is noticeably higher, since the car is mainly supplied by "gray" dealers.

The list of basic equipment at a comparable cost significantly exceeds the offers from European, Korean and Japanese competitors and includes:

  • Halogen head optics;
  • Plastic body kit around the entire perimeter of the body;
  • Alloy wheels;
  • Rear spoiler;
  • Roof rails;
  • Climate control;
  • Multifunctional steering wheel;
  • Multimedia system with 10.2-inch multitouch screen and navigation;
  • Back view camera;
  • Cruise control;
  • Keyless entry to the salon;
  • Anti-lock braking system, as well as EBD and ESP systems;
  • Frontal + side airbags;
  • Disc brakes on all wheels (front with ventilation);
  • Full power accessories.


In a richer version, the price of which reaches 24.2 thousand dollars, the car is additionally equipped with:

  • Leather upholstery;
  • Premium audio system;
  • Electric sunroof;
  • Heated front seats;
  • Tracking system for "dead" zones;
  • Control over the lane of movement and other "chips".


Additionally, customers are given the opportunity to purchase a number of branded accessories, the idea of ​​which was also spied on by Range Rover.

Conclusion about the Landwind X7 2017

Landwind X7 is another proof that in the very near future, Korean, American, Japanese and even European automakers will have to reckon with Chinese companies, whose development has reached a completely new, higher quality level.
