As it became known, a massive recall of the Porsche Panamera liftback was announced in Russia. The company representatives asked the owners to park their cars very carefully and preferably away from other cars. Models sold by authorized dealers between December 2010 and October 2017 can cause a fire even in a parked car due to a small defect.
Recall that earlier a BMW recall company was announced with the same problem. Unsuccessful exhaust gas recirculation led to overheating of the engine and further ignition of the vehicle. Then more than 30,000 cars were recalled in Russia. It didn't take long before a similar cause was found in the Porsche Panamera's liftback. The main difference is that the reason is not in the engine, but in the ventilation of the air conditioner. Moisture from the air conditioner can enter the main control box. A small short circuit can cause a short circuit, resulting in a fire. A huge disadvantage is that it is impossible to predict this moment, and since the control unit is constantly energized, it can short-circuit at any time, even in a standing state of the car. It turns out that the owner of a Porsche Panamera may not know when the fire will occur. Accordingly, he will not be able to take any action to extinguish the car.
That is why the manufacturer appeals to the owners of the Porsche Panamera, with a warning request about the need for urgent repairs. It is also advised not to park close to other cars. Thus, the manufacturer temporarily tries to avoid accidents and fires. According to the owners, in large cities, especially in Moscow, it is not so easy to find a deserted place where such a liftback could be parked.
As the statistics show, 2,055 copies of the Porsche Panamera fall under the recall of the service company. For today, a complete list of VIN codes can be found on the Rosstandart website. For car owners, special service centers will check the dangerous unit for leaks free of charge.
If necessary, the tightness will be improved or the entire unit will be replaced with a new one with improved tightness. According to available information, from January to May 2019 alone, 177 copies of the Porsche Panamera were purchased in Russia. On the other hand, this is 16.1% less than in the same period in 2018.
