Famous automobile exhibitions, the history of which goes back more than half a century, fell under the same motive. One such example is the Geneva Motor Show. This exhibition has already been repeatedly postponed with the hope that in 2020 it will nevertheless take place and show the whole world new car models.
According to official figures from the organizers and representatives of the Geneva Motor Show, the auto show should not be expected even in 2021. Recall that the Geneva auto show was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic a few days before the opening, while the organizers prepared the event and invested a colossal amount of money. As a result, the cancellation of the show caused financial problems and jeopardized the existence of the exhibition as a whole. Since 1947, the Geneva exhibition has been held every year without interruption.
If you believe the words of representatives of the fund, which is responsible for organizing the auto show in Geneva, then there will be no auto show in 2020, and this auto show was canceled in 2021. The main reason is that no one can give an accurate forecast of how the situation with the coronavirus pandemic will develop in the coming months. That is why the organizers decided not to risk it, thereby preserving not only the fund's finances, but also the lives of the exhibition visitors.
As the statistics of the Geneva auto show show, in recent years the number of visitors has reached 600 thousand people. Approximately 10 thousand journalists covered the work of the car exhibition. To all the financial losses, it also became known that many automakers refused to participate in the 2021 auto show. Many companies were idle for several months, thereby suffering large financial losses, and car sales fell to unprecedented lows. Another reason why many automakers have given up is online presentations. They are cheaper, and there are no risks of financial losses in the event of a force majeure situation.
Another unpleasant situation for the Geneva auto show was the financial situation of Salon International de l 'Automobile, which actually organizes the exhibition. Initially, in March, the company's fund wanted to receive financial assistance from the Geneva authorities; in early June, a loan of 16.8 million francs was approved, which at the current exchange rate is about 15.7 million euros. The downside was the conditions for repayment of the loan, which the company considered unacceptable, as a result of which it had to refuse such assistance. So far, today the only way out of this situation is the sale of the rights to hold the Palexpo SA company, the one that actually provides the exhibition center, where this event was held all the time.
