In the second half of November 2016, the French carmaker Citroen presented a restyled version of the C-Elysee subcompact sedan, which is very popular in Russia and in the Chinese market. In comparison with its predecessor, the car received a modernized appearance, a more stylish and modern interior, as well as more advanced technical equipment, which will undoubtedly make the car even more popular and in demand.

The main competitor of the novelty is the single-platform sedan Peugeot 301, which has also recently experienced a very noticeable facelift. Therefore, let's try to figure out what exactly Citroens are planning to fight for the “wallets” of potential buyers.

Exterior of the new C-Elysee

It should be noted right away that the previous generation Citroen C-Elysee also had an attractive and modern design that favorably distinguished the car in its price segment. After restyling, the car began to look more solid and "grown-up". This is especially true of the front of the body, where a wider false radiator grille, slightly frowned head optics and an impressive front bumper have settled.

Note that from now on, the car can boast of the presence of LED running lights, effectively inscribed above the front foglights. The profile of the sedan has not received any drastic changes - there are still slightly protruding wheel arches, stylish stampings along the side doors, as well as a slightly sloping roofline smoothly turning into a neat stern. By the way, the rear of the car has got some modified side lights with LED elements and a 3D effect.

Together with the updated body, the manufacturer added two new body colors - bright blue and dark gray, where the first option looks especially advantageous, which, most likely, will be more popular among young people.

The updated C-Elysee has the following dimensions:

  • Length - 4427 mm;
  • Width - 1748 mm;
  • Height - 1466 mm;
  • Wheelbase - 2652 mm, which is quite good considering the cost and class of the car.


The vehicle's ground clearance is 140 mm, which is especially important for the Russian market, where most of the roads can be called “expensive” only conditionally.

Following the exterior, the French updated the interior of the car, where the main focus was on the quality of finishing materials, their fit and ergonomics. Directly in front of the driver is a relatively simple but easy-to-read instrument panel, as well as a stylish three-spoke steering wheel. The central part of the dashboard attracts the eye with a large 7-inch display of the infotainment complex (available in more expensive trim levels) and a stylish microclimate control unit.

Also note that the window regulator buttons are in a rather unusual place - in the central part of the dashboard, next to the gear selector. Ergonomics of the workplace is at a high level, although it is still far from the majority of "Germans".


The front seats are reasonably comfortable and, at first glance, have lateral support, but in reality it is just an excellent visual imitation. The rear sofa is able to accommodate three passengers, however, due to the high transmission tunnel, the central rider may be somewhat uncomfortable. There is enough free space in length and width on the second row, but there may not be enough free space above the heads of tall passengers.

The volume of the trunk in the standard position is 506 liters, but its shape is far from ideal. However, this cannot be considered a critical drawback, since the trunk of most competitors is significantly inferior in volume.

Regardless of the version, there is a repair kit and a full-fledged "spare wheel" in the luggage compartment underground, which is good news. If desired, folding the second row seats, the volume of the luggage compartment can be increased more than twice, which, unfortunately, does not allow getting a flat loading area.

In general, the interior of the updated C-Elysee looks more expensive than it costs, for which the French designers and constructors deserve special thanks.

The line of power units of the updated sedan remained unchanged and is represented by two gasoline engines, distinguished by high reliability and efficiency, which is especially important for the average man in the street, given the constantly growing cost of fuel:

  1. The younger engine is represented by a 1.2-liter 72-horsepower gasoline engine, equipped with a 5-range manual transmission. This symbiosis allows the car to accelerate to a maximum of 160 km / h, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 14.2 seconds, and the average fuel consumption does not exceed 5.3 l / 100 km.
  2. The second engine is a 1.6-liter petrol, producing 115 hp. and 150 Nm of torque. Such an engine can be aggregated with a 5-range "mechanics" or a new 6-speed "automatic". The maximum speed of a car with such an engine is already 188 km / h, acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 9.4 (10.8) seconds, and fuel consumption does not exceed 6.5-7.1 l / 100 km in mixed driving mode.

Knowing the quality of Russian roads, Citroen decided to install a reinforced chassis and suspension on the C-Elysee, where the latter additionally received a number of new settings that allowed the car to provide a decent level of comfort regardless of the quality of the road surface. The front axle is represented by classic MacPherson struts, and the rear axle is a semi-independent torsion beam.

Easy and comfortable driving is provided by an informative steering wheel with an electrohydraulic power steering. All wheels use a disc braking system, which, together with a wide range of electronic assistants, ensures confident deceleration on almost any road surface.

Despite the fact that Citroen C-Elysee is in the class of budget cars, the manufacturer has equipped it with a good set of active and passive safety systems, which is practically in no way inferior to cars in a class higher. Among them:

  • Anti-lock braking system with EBD;
  • Emergency deceleration system AFU;
  • Downhill start assistant;
  • Tracking function for the "dead" zones of the car, represented by special light indicators located on the side mirrors;
  • Front parking sensors and parking assist function, which is automatically activated when driving at a speed of no more than 10 km / h;
  • Intelligent traction control system;
  • Immobilizer;
  • Back view camera;
  • Electric side mirrors with heating function;
  • Automatic door lock when driving at speeds up to 10 km / h;
  • A pair of frontal airbags;
  • ISOFIX child seat mountings;
  • Programmed cruise control;
  • Steel wheels R16;
  • Keyless entry and start of the engine from the button.


All this allows the car to provide a high level of safety for both passengers of the first and second row of seats, as well as to safely recommend the sedan as a practical, comfortable, inexpensive and safe family car.

Configuration and price of the 2017 Citroen C-Elysee

In the Russian market, the restyled Citroen C-Elysee is offered in five equipment options: LIVE, FEEL, FEEL Edition, SHINE, SHINE Ultimate. Those wishing to become the owner of the novelty will need to part with at least 11.8 thousand dollars or 732 thousand rubles (promotional offer), while already in this configuration the buyer will receive:

  • Electro-hydraulic power steering;
  • The ability to adjust the steering wheel in height / reach;
  • Additional crankcase protection;
  • ABS, REF, AFU, ESP and ASR system;
  • A pair of frontal airbags;
  • Full power accessories;
  • Air conditioning;
  • Audio preparation with 6 speakers and antenna;
  • Interior fabric trim.


More expensive equipment FEEL and FEEL Edition will cost at least 1.02 million rubles. and 1.049 million, respectively, and will additionally offer:

  • Programmable cruise control;
  • On-board computer with a black and white display in the central part of the dashboard;
  • Fog and LED running lights;
  • Heated first row seat;
  • Audio player with radio, mp3 and Bluetooth protocol support;
  • Multifunctional steering wheel.


The maximum trim levels SHINE and SHINE Ultimate start at 1.19 and 1.35 million ($ 19.1 and $ 21.7 thousand), respectively. For this money, the buyer additionally receives:

  • On-board computer with 7-inch touchscreen display;
  • Central locking with 2 keys and the possibility of remote unlocking;
  • LED headlights and LED rear lights;
  • Dual-zone climate control;
  • Navigation and backward review camera;
  • Light alloy wheels R17;

Conclusion on the new Citroen C-Elysee

The 2017 Citroen C-Elysee is still one of the most stylish, economical and technically advanced cars in the class. In comparison with its predecessor, the novelty has become more "adult", received a noticeably improved interior in terms of the quality of finishing and equipment, and also retained productive and economical engines. The car can be safely recommended to the youth audience, as well as to people of the middle age group who want to get a lot of cars for relatively little money.
